Morgie rocks this week

I think this might have been the only smile we got out of Morgan that day.

Morgan said about half way through this week. "Man, I have had so many good things happen this week!" Last week she told me she wanted to try out for the 8th grade volleyball team (she is in 7th grade). I wasn't so sure about that because I had heard there were quite a few good 8th grade girls on the team. Sunday she got her volleyball out and we practiced in the back yard. She did pretty good, me on the other hand, almost broke my toe. I ran for a ball and slid on the grass, and my toes rolled up under my foot. I thought I was going to die. It still hurts pretty bad, but it is not as bruised as it was. Anyway, Monday she went to tryouts. She was really nervous. There were only five 7th graders trying out and about eighteen 8th graders, so I was a little worried for her. The results were supposed to be posted Tuesday at 10:00 am. She had Shawn go over and check and she made the team. She was so excited! There is an A team & a B team, she is on the B team along with 2 other 7th graders. It has been an eye opener for her to be on a competitive team where the coach yells at you, but she is loving it.
Morgan clipping her steer to get him BEAUTIFUL for show day.

Skywalker all washed and in his slinky so he stays cleans for the next day's show.

Tuesday the kids spent the day getting ready for the 4-H fair this week. They washed their animals and finished their record books. Wednesday morning was Morgan's horse show. She did awesome. She is getting so big she doesn't want much help from me anymore. Sometimes I have to wait until she goes somewhere to touch up where she might have missed. I always stress that she is not ready and she always proves me wrong in the show ring. She did awesome in halter showmanship and came away with GRAND CHAMPION SHOWMAN! The other classes she also did well in. Skywalker, her horse, doesn't like to pick up his left lead when loping so she didn't place in her riding events, but she rode very well.

Morgan & Skywalker in the show ring, this is what she won Showmanship in.Waiting for the next event.

Later in the day, we took her steer and Carter's pig into the fair grounds to stay for the rest of the week for the fair. Friday Morgan showed her steer. She did great. She won reserve showman in her division so she got to go in and show against all of the winners of each division. She didn't win, but she did great. She was having a bad morning I think, because she wouldn't smile for anything. It's so frustrating to know she could do better if her attitude wasn't in the dumps, but I guess they have to learn somehow. She also showed her steer in the the quality division. She placed 4th overall for steer quality. That means she has one of the best steers in the fair. Saturday morning was the market sale. She sold her steer for $1900.00, plus she should have some additional add ons from some other businesses. Her cost of raising the steer was $1700.00 so she actually made some money this year. I think next year she will invest in a blower. She needs it to make her steers hair fluffy. It was hard for her to get him ready because she had to wait until everyone was done with their blowers so she could use one.

Morgan & Chuck on their way to the show ring.

Anyway, what a great week of accomplishments for Morgan. She should be so proud of herself. We are proud of all she has accomplished.
