Carter at the Fair
It was Carter's 1st year in 4-H this and he decided to take a pig. This was a new experience for me also. I remember showing pigs in the fair, but most of the years I remember our pigs didn't make weight which means you don't get to sell them. His pig had no problem and seemed to be about the perfect weight. We loaded him up in the trailer Wednesday to take him to the fair and Carter got him all sparkling clean. We got him into the fair grounds and weighed. He weighed 267 lbs. It is hard for me to believe that that much weight can be in such a small body. Pork Chop was a good pig. Carter kept him clean in his pen. I kept telling Carter in the show ring it is so important to smile and keep and eye on the judge. He was so cute in there trying his best to show his pig. He wouldn't smile with his teeth, but he really tried to smile and keep his pig out where the judge could see him. He got a blue ribbon in showmanship and a red in quality. I guess his pig's butt was to skinny. Who knew a pig could have a skinny butt! Saturday was the sale. He got his pig in the sale arena and sold it to Les Schwab Tire's for $850.00. Thanks Uncle Neal. That means his cost was $275 so he made almost $600. Wow! Not bad for a 1st year project. Right after the sale he said he wasn't feeling good and came home with Shawn. When I got home he had a fever. It looks like the next casualty in this nasty thing going through our house. That means all of the kids will have had it. Look out mom & dad.
