Proud of our Carter

So....yesterday I got a phone call from Carter's principal (yeah, the first thing that went through my mind was AH OH, what has Carter done). But...he quickly put my concerns to rest when he said "Good News". Whew! He went on to tell me that Carter had approached him with a $20 bill and told him he found it in the library and it wasn't his. He was so proud of him, as was I. I really needed that little "maybe we are doing something right boost" right now. He told me he went and pulled him out of class and took him to the candy store they have at the school. He asked him what would be a fitting reward for someone who turned in $20, and Carter immediately piped up "Get to keep the $20). I so knew that was coming. I had to laugh...he told him they had found the owner of the $20 but he could pick out a giant candy bar from the store. As it turned out according to Carter they have a whole stash of giant candy bars, but he picked a giant kit kat.

We are so proud of him and his honesty, I'm thinking many kids would have just kept it. It was also a little boost to my parenting moral, after dealing with Shade and his "school is not important, so I won't go to class or do my work" attitude. We just don't know what to do with him. There is not much more that we can take away; we have his bike, his car, his week nights. Next is his phone (which he really doesn't care about), and the weekends out. Hopefully he shapes up, I can't take much more.
