Crash & Burn

I hate to type with one hand, so this is going to be short and sweet. Aspen and I were riding on the 4-wheeler with Shawn (on Sunday) while he was going to shut off the irrigation water. Yeah I know not an appropriate Sunday activity, Shade already said that. Anyway, instead of driving up the road to the ditch, Shawn decided to take the road less traveled and baha up the side of the steep ditch bank. Well together we are no light weights and that poor 4-wheeler couldn't make it up the side of the bank. As we coasted backward down the hill, Shawn didn't notice that we were headed toward a large hole that Shade had dug for one of his bike jumps. As the 4-wheeler teetered sideways, I realized that if it rolled Aspen could get hurt so I grabbed her and bailed, while Shawn tried to keep the 4-wheeler up. I put my arm out to catch us, but didn't think about the distance we had to fall. By the time I landed it jammed my arm so hard it dislocated my shoulder. Holy Cow. Can I say PAIN, PAIN, PAIN! I checked to make sure I hadn't hurt Aspen, because I had landed on her to cover her; and she was. After that I was a mess, it hurt so stink'n bad. I have never ever felt that much pain. Shawn raced me into the ER and believe me I felt every bump and cussed living out in the country 15 miles from the hospital. Of course there is no EMERGENCY in the ER unless you are dying which although I felt like I might they didn't think so. They took there sweet little time and wouldn't give me anything for the pain. After about an hour in there they finally decided it was dislocated and put it back. RELIEF. Shawn and Bob gave me a blessing when I got done which was nice. A lot the same as the last one which talked of using my faith and increasing it. I guess I didn't learn well enough after the last one.

I went to the orthopedic surgeon yesterday to have it checked out and he said I should have surgery to re-attach the labram(?) to the bone. That is what helps hold it in place so I don't have to worry as much that this will happen again. I also have to have an MRI to see if it tore my rotator cuff in the process. Hopefully not, but if yes then he will do that surgery at the same time. Thankfully, I have met my deductible and out of pocket on my last surgery so financially this won't hurt us to much. I can't decide if I want to get it done now while I am so still recuperating from knee surgery then be better all at once, or wait till Fall, so that maybe I can enjoy the Summer a little. He did tell me I can type with two hands, I just can't lift my upper arm away from my body. That is why this is the long story instead of the short.

  1. Kandee Boice....you are grounded from going outside, or doing anything that has to do with getting hurt. You are going to have to live in one of those bubble things. Even then, I bet you could figure out how to get hurt. I feel for you girl, I dislocated my shoulder hundreds of times until every ligament was torn from my rotator cuff. They say it is more pain than giving birth, and I would have to agree. I have had 3 boys and the shoulder hurt worse! Get better would ya?
