If it SMELLS, like SKUNK it is SKUNK!

We had ourselves a good laugh this week with our adventurous child CARTER. He had his buddy Larz Sutton stay overnight and first thing in the morning they disappeared on one of their expeditions. I didn't think to much of it, but heard them come in a little later. I hadn't seen them for a while so I thought I would go see what they had been up to. As I walked into the living room I was assailed by the smell of SKUNK. I knew Ellie (our dog) had been in the house, but the boys were no where in sight. I asked Aspen where Carter was and she said he was upstairs, already knowing what I was going to find; I hollered at them to come down. I was even more sure when there was no answer. After another good yell, they peeked their heads sheepishly around the corner at the top of the stairs. I asked them what I already knew, had they gotten sprayed by a skunk. They answer was a very quiet & sheepish YES. I sent them outside to strip, put a little fear in them by telling them they would smell like this for a week, then sent them to separate showers. After calling Larz' mom to give her a good laugh; I googled "how to get rid of skunk smell off of humans" The answer...equal parts soda, dawn & hydrogen peroxide. I mixed it up and had them SCRUB, SCRUB, SCRUB. I think Larz stayed in the shower for 45 minutes. I think he was terrified he was going to be in trouble. His parents just got a good laugh. The initial story was they were just walking along and the skunk sprayed them. Since they can't pull the wool over my eyes... I got the real story. Carter had set a live trap and trapped the skunk. Not knowing how to get it out, they decided to shoot it, with a pellet gun no less. Larz was closest and got the brunt of it. I couldn't even smell it on Carter when he got out of the shower. When Larz mom came to pick him up he tried to get in the car while I was talking to her; his sister jumped out of the car holding her nose as he chased her around the car.
