For all the non-farm people it is hard to explain exactly what my arm was in. The small pipe is the drive-line. It is welded to the main pipe. Yes that is only a little over an inch wide. No my arm is not that skinny. In fact we were just laughing on Sunday about my "big bones". I'm not fat I'm big boned! I'm thankful for my big strong bones this time.

My plan this week was to go in with Shawn to excercise every day. Shawn goes in every day at 6:00 am and I go with him 3 days a week. Anyway, my weight loss is at a plateau so I thought I would kick it in with everyday excercise. Shade told me Monday night he had to be in to school early to finish a test, so that whole idea went down the tubes. I got up Tuesday to help Shade move the sprinkler lines. Shawn had him start Monday moving them instead of Shawn or I having to move them. It was a little chilly so I had my gloves and sweat shirt on. Shade got the motor going on the wheel line then went on to the next one. I decided to try to move the wheel line so it would be closer to the mainline where it hooks up. By the way for you non farm people that is a no-no. There is a drive line that runs from the motor down the line that rotates so that the line will move. As I lifted the pipe the drive-line caught my glove and sucked my hand in between the pipe. There was nothing I could do, as soon as it got my glove wrapped up it went to work on my sweatshirt sleeve. I yelled at Shade to turn the motor off, and he came running. I got twisted up enough that it bound the motor up and shut it off before he could get there. It had sucked my arm in up to my elbow. Shade came running to help me get out. My arm was so tight we couldn't budge it. It hurt so bad, I started to go into shock. I told Shade he had to pull the drive-line out so I could get my arm out. It wouldn't budge. I told him he had to find a way to get it off. He was able to move down the line a little where it wasn't attached to the main pipe and pull it out enough we could wedge my arm out. I think I passed out then, or just about did. Shade ran & got a knife to cut my shirt away and drove me home and got me in bed. Shawn got home few minutes later and took over. I just remember shaking so bad and not being able to control it. The pain was aweful. Shawn got the electric blankets and Jenaee (the just graduated nurse) came over. They got some blankets warmed up in the dryer and after about 1 1/2 hours got me to quit shaking and out of shock. I took some pretty heavy pain meds and slept most of the day. I am thankful I was being watched over. Normally, if I would have been moving pipe it would have been by myself. If that would have been the case, I probably would have lost my arm, because there would have been no way to get it out by myself. No broken bones just a lot of missing skin, some major bruises and swelling.

The bruising starting under my arm. The road rash on top. You can see how bad it is swollen from the lines the wrap left in it.
Yeah, there really is no skin under that.
This is what is left of my sweat shirt. I think my glove is still out on the wheel line.

ReplyDeleteFor us non-farm, non Idaho people, I am super mad that no one told me about this! Kandee, I can't believe that happened to you, you are so lucky that you didn't lose your arm! Good job Shade for taking over. I feel so bad that you are so hurt! Oh man...
