Happy Mother's Day

I love the MOMS in my life...Happy Mothers Day

My mommy & me (& Aspen)

Every Mother's Day I start belting out the primary song "I often go Walking". It reminds me so much of my mom. I often go walking in meadows of flowers & I gather armfuls of blossoms of blue. I gather the armfuls of blossoms of clover, dear mother, all flowers remind me of you. I also remember that being one of my moms favorite songs. I am so thankful for my mom. She is such an example and inspiration to me. My aunt once told me she had never heard my mom speak negative of someone. She serves the Lord always, in her church callings, and all other aspects of her life. There is not a better example that I know of. Last week I was at her house & tried to start the dishwasher after dinner on Sunday. She told me not to start it as she doesn't wash dishes on Sunday. I informed her it was a "dishwasher" & she told me she didn't have any need to start it. She is right in that aspect. If I skipped the dishes on Sunday, it would take me two days to catch up. Anyway, I told her just because of that her dishwasher would probably last her for 20 years!

The other mothers in my life (Shawn's mom, Berta and Grandma Alice) are also amazing. Alice doesn't look a year over 75 & she will be 88 this year. What a beautiful woman. She inspires me as she walks with her friend just about every day, even though she is hurting sometimes. She is growing old so gracefully. She supports her grand kids & great grand kids by coming to their birthdays, recitals & ball games whenever she can (or gets invited). Berta is one of the most gentle women I know. I am pretty sure I have never heard her raise her voice at anyone. She loves her children and still when they are grown tries to guide them.

I am so thankful to be a mom. Alice said last night she saw a quote that said " I would be the perfect mom, if it wasn't for my kids". I had to laugh, but really, it is because of my kids that I am a mom & I am so grateful for the priceless gift of motherhood. How boring and stale my life would be without them. They show me unconditional love even when I don't think I deserve it. If only I could forgive as they do. Shawn said the other day after spending a few hours with Aspen, "Do you know how lucky you are to spend all day with her?" Of course I responded "yes I do" What a joy she is. Yesterday, at the start of Sunday School, Morgan reported that Shade was sitting in the car, so I went out and joined him. I asked him what he was doing and he said he was just eating his M&M's. I asked him where he got them & he said that Josh went to Ririe after they prepared the sacrament to get them. I looked at the gas gauge & the odometer and asked him if he went along. He just kind of smiled, & I mentioned that there were a few more miles on the odometer and since the tank had been on empty, there seemed to be a few more gallons in the tank. He just laughed and said yeah I drove him. So funny, he has the cutest little lopsided grin. Anyway, I convinced him to get into class. Carter spent all morning yesterday making a microwave box into a car. It had turn signals, a door that opened and then he put on his roller blades for wheels. He is forever building things or has the most amazing ideas on how to make things work like how to trap a fox with string & a stick. Shawn always says if he is not some kind of engineer or architect when he grows up we will be surprised. Morgan is growing so big and we are so proud of her. She is an incredible worker. She tries so hard in school and even though her grades aren't perfect she always tries. I have had so many people tell me what a hard worker she is. She is making decisions right now in her life that as parents we are proud of. She is becoming a young woman that knows what is right and does it. Anyway, all bragging aside, I love my kids & love my "MOMS" and I love being a mom.
